Cupertino

Known as part of the “Valley of Heart’s Delight” for its spring blossoms, Cupertino has a storied history since the city’s beginnings in the late 1700s. Grapes, vineyards, and orchards filled with apricots, cherries, plums, walnuts, and almond trees flourished in Cupertino’s lower foothills and flatlands.

Today, the city is known for its role as the original heart of Silicon Valley. Apple, Inc. launched here in 1977, and the company’s stunning Apple Park campus on Pruneridge Avenue is close to where Steve Jobs attended high school. Many other tech companies, such as Symantec and Portal Software, started up or expanded in Cupertino. The city offers a unique balance of high-tech companies, open space, retail centers, world-class schools, and residential living. Two of Cupertino’s high schools, Monte Vista and Lynbrook, consistently rank in the country’s top 100 public high schools.

The city’s 13 square miles are minutes away from other prominent Silicon Valley cities and San Francisco. A highly sought-after community for work and living, homes in Cupertino range in price from the high $1 million for the smaller houses to larger executive homes that cost between $2 million and $4 million.

While Cali Mill Plaza, which hosts the Cypress Hotel and various restaurants, is the city’s traditional historical center, the newer Main Street Cupertino now serves as its downtown area. Nature is nearby in abundance, with Stevens Creek County Park, Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve, and Cupertino Memorial Park offering opportunities to hike, fish, boat, and view wildlife. Playgrounds, duck ponds, tennis courts, and walking trails provide a range of other activities.
